The Deputy Solicitor General

The post of Deputy Solicitor-General (DSG) is held by Miss Niroshini RAMSOONDAR ​who assists the Solicitor - General in a number of functions namely :
 
(i) the management of the Attorney General's Office
 
(ii) the provision of legal advice to the Government
 ​
(iii) the training and guidance of law officers
 
(iv) spearheading reforms in the Attorney General's Office
 
 
The DSG is also entrusted with the following duties :
 
(i) drafting and supervising of primary and subsidiary legislation and other legal documents
 
(ii) conducting civil litigation cases in which the Government is a party and ensure follow-up action
 
(iii) performing the functions of "Ministere Public"
 
(iv) promoting good industrial relations and staff welfare
 
 
The post was first filled in 2009.​ Miss Ramsoondar joined the AGO as Assistant Solicitor General on 10 August 2020 and was appointed as Acting Deputy Solicitor General on 01 October 2021.
